MUDIE-BOND NEWS

Robinsons in the pink with new Actros

Most little girls might receive a doll’s pram or a tricycle for their second birthday – Isabelle Robinson’s special present came in the shape of a new generation Mercedes Actros tractor unit bearing her name and painted in her favourite pastel pink!

Of course, rather than Isabelle the truck actually belongs to her father, agricultural haulier Edward Robinson. But judging by her smiles, she was certainly delighted with her surprise.

The 6x2 Actros 2446 was supplied to Robinsons of Worcester by dealer Mudie-Bond, of Tewkesbury. It boasts a mid-lift axle with 17.5in wheels – this is some 250kg lighter than a standard axle with 22.5in wheels yet still allows the rig to operate at the full 44 tonnes gvw.

'I know from experience that the Actros is a reliable truck and offers competitive running costs,' says Mr Robinson, whose fleet of 10 tractors includes two units from the previous Actros generation.

'But as I always do, having decided to invest in a new vehicle I approached all the major manufacturers. I don’t want these things to drag on for months, but quickly realised that even the process of getting a quotation from most suppliers was going to be exhausting.

'With Mudie-Bond, though, it was different. I sat down with sales executive Mark Knibbs and we went through every detail of specification there and then. Within half an hour he had an agreement and a figure for me.'

He continues: 'I was pleased with the price and the product looks very good – the updates to the cab design and the new Mercedes PowerShift 2 gearbox have made what was already a good vehicle even better.

The new axle option is also a very good 'fit' for our business and of course Isabelle, who now considers the Actros to be her truck, absolutely loves it!'
